Just a quick little review as I didn’t write down notes for this one since it was in cinema. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a 1975 British comedy film about King Arthur, his knights of the round table and their quest to receive the Holy Grail. The film was made on a very small $400,000 budget but went on to receive $5 million at the international box office.

What I love about this movie is that if there is a place to fit in a joke, or even if there isn’t, they will put one in, and even so they never feel forced or even unfunny, I found myself laughing at nearly every joke, the others I at least chuckled. You could tell that everyone behind and in front of the camera had a great sense of humour and knows how to use it. The performances are very charismatic and memorable, making the jokes even funnier.

Another thing which makes it so great is how incredibly unique the film is, I don’t think I’ve seen such a crazy comedy film and with so many comedies now days being just people talking and getting stuck in difficult situations it was nice to go back when comedy was more than just a feature length sit-com with poor humour and actually interesting. The characters stood out, except the Knights of the Round Table, most of them aren’t developed and it took me quite a while to learn which one was which.

As far as the visual aspect of the film it was very nice to look at, the Scottish country side and the great animation paired with the outrageous situations using its small budget to its fullest creating the illusion that the film was made with much more money than it was. It boggled my mind how it was made on a $400,000 budget when the film featured plenty of complex and great costumes and armour.

The score was also great with funny songs to sing along to and a fantastic score that sounds like something from a blockbuster epic. I was gladly surprised by the score being as good as it is.

Overall this is one of the funniest comedies ever made, if you’re tired of the dross hitting the screens year after year and want to watch a great classic which will have you howling with laughter and has much more than laughs to offer then I highly recommend this movie. It has the great British dry humour which makes Monty Python so great.

8/10
