Written by Kevin Williamson and directed by the late Wes Craven, Scream is a horror slasher flick that is also a satire on the horror genre as a whole. It stars Drew Barrymore, Skeet Ulrich, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Matthew Lillard.
Scream is about a group of teenagers who are being terrorised by a mysterious masked killer and throughout the entire film you are still guessing who the killer is. That’s one thing that makes the film so great, the unpredictability, you are given so many hints on which person the killer is but when it comes to the reveal you had no idea it was coming, that’s not to say it made no sense, it did but you would have never guessed it. The plot takes clever twists and turns and you just have no idea what is happening next, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
There was also a great creepy and tense atmosphere throughout the entire film that really spooked you as you felt stuck in the middle of this huge massacre, watching it unfold right before your eyes was creepy but also very satisfying.
Other than that the film doesn’t have much more going for it, you can’t really tell what was done on purpose or accidental since this is pretty much a parody. The performances weren’t fantastic but that might be what the director was going for you can’t really tell. So there isn’t much else about this film I can talk about really.
In conclusion Scream is a great ride any horror buff will love, everything is there to just sit back with a couple of friends and have a lot of fun.
7/10
