The Place Beyond the Pines is a film I believe is best experienced with no knowledge of the film or plot so my review will be completely spoiler free. All I'm going to tell you is that the film is about mistakes. In my opinion at least, I'll probably do a proper analysis at some point after I re-watch it a couple of times as it is a film that is as rich in detail below the surface as it is above. I had no idea what the film was about going in, I hadn't purposely avoided information it just so happened I was lucky to avoid any spoilers and I am thankful because this film is completely unpredictable, it always keeps you on edge because most of the time you don't know what the hell is going to happen and your guesses completely miss. The visuals and cinematography was also stunning, not only was it beautifully shot but each scene had several details and you could tell that they were all carefully planned out. The performances were also excellent which each character was performed perfectly, all interesting and all the actors more than sold their roles, you were convinced these people were real. The score, while being used few and far between, was also great, building up tension or just being something beautiful to add to a beautiful scene. In conclusion this is a perfectly crafted film which keeps you on edge with amazing performances, each scene is beautiful which all combined make a near perfect film. Watch this film if you haven't already. 9/10
